My name is Melinda Pond I am an apprentice midwife under Mercy. I am married to a wonderful man and we have 7 children ages 6-18. We are members of the Society of Our Lady a Catholic missionary order. My personal birth experiences are all different. The first three were born at the hospital (going from epidural to natural) the next three were adopted and our youngest child was born at home with a midwife in attendance. This experience at home was the most relaxing, natural and peaceful birth. This along with my experiences I had serving on medical missions to Haiti laid a wonderful burden on my heart to serve other women who may not have anyone else to educate and care for them during pregnancy through postpartum. There is a need for qualified midwives in rural (or most) areas of Haiti. I have been doing my own research and study over the last several years with the plans of doing a distant learning program and fulfill the requirements for the NARM’s Portfolio Evaluation Process (PEP) to become a CPM Certified Professional Midwife. I am CPR certified for infants through adults and certified in Neonatal Resuscitation.
